As part of Off the Wall, 15 LSA artists will be demonstrating their practice live in the Art Room throughout September.
See 11 oil painters alongside artists working in ceramics, sculpture and jewellery, with demonstrations taking place across the exhibition. Drop in to watch them work, discover different techniques and creative processes, ask questions and meet the artists behind the work.
Whether you paint yourself, love art or are simply curious about how a piece develops from idea to finished work, it’s a chance to see the creative process up close.

Meet the Makers
Alex Nelson
Alex is from Coventry and is mainly a landscape / skyscape oil paint artist, but also creates with fine-liner pen and is currently exploring the more abstract side of his art.
Alex encourages the viewer to find their own interpretation… What do you see?
Annie Brenchley
Annie Brenchley finds inspiration in the quiet beauty of everyday life—from woodland walks to still life arrangements. Working both outdoors and in the studio, her paintings capture light, colour and the simple joy of careful observation.
Caroline Walsh-Waring
Caroline’s approach to surrealism connects with her subconscious through colour, movement and emotion. Inspired by the natural world, she creates imaginative works that link feelings with moments and experiences.
Christine Hodges
Christine paints mainly still life in oils and in summer likes to take advantage of the warmer weather to paint landscapes en-plein air.
She has a fascination for colour and form, and her work explores colour and light through still life oil paintings.
Corinna Spencer
Corinna is interested in the synergy of processes across various disciplines and the challenge of their application. Inspired by Paul Klee’s work and more recently by incorporating found objects into her ceramic pieces and jewellery, she is intrigued by finding new ways of achieving this.
David Douglas
David’s work is representational, allowing the medium (in this case oil paint) to explore the rhythm, colour and other dynamics in nature. Oil paint is a rich sophisticated medium and lends itself well to David’s observations of the modern world
Eric Klein Velderman
Eric explores materials and their properties employing traditional techniques. Whether mixing rabbit skin glue with clay bole or combining copper leaf with sulphates, his practice investigates the chemical consequences of juxtaposing materials. His work uses architectural forms and the natural world as a starting point for development.
Eva Fogg
Eva is particularly interested in the relationships between body, mind, and the sense of self, and loves capturing moments where these aspects are in conflict. Her paintings are a way of studying these relationships, and trying to understand what it means to live in a human body…
Gillian Shadbolt
Gillian’s Oil Painting practice is about nature and memories.
There is always a narrative about the choices she makes, but it is important that the viewer has their own interpretation and their own story, from simple nature to still life.
Isobel Cooper
Isabel is largely inspired by Nature. Whether working from a plein air sketch or from a fleeting moment captured on camera, she loves exploring the interplay of light and dark, colour and shape.
Janette George
Janette is drawn to expressing places she has visited and things she has seen where the light and colour interact to provide beauty – wide expansive skies, seas, and landscapes; the hues of nature; reflections in water; textures and layers.
Jean Ensell
Jean Ensell works with papier-mâché, using simple materials including paper, flour, water and recycled or upcycled elements to create vessels and, more recently, sculpture. Her process is experimental and meditative, exploring form, decoration and finishing without specialist equipment or technology.
Joan Postins
Joan works in oils, inks and collage on canvas, board and hand made paper.
Experimentation is at the fore of her work; continually striving for atmosphere and calm with mark-making and colour.
Katy Walden
Katy Walden is a Warwickshire painter whose work celebrates nature through vibrant colour and expressive painting. Her botanical and floral subjects reveal a love of the changing seasons and the beauty of the natural world.
Nicola Richards
Nicola’s functional domestic ware is wheel thrown or hand-built and decorated with a delightful palette of colourful slips. The designs are made by painting with slips onto print paper which are then transferred onto the pot surface by dampening and rubbing with the back of a spoon.
