The LSA is a membership charity dedicated to supporting artists in the local area. Our aim is to foster and increase public interest, awareness, and appreciation of the visual arts.
This is a crucial volunteer role responsible for ensuring LSA’s financial health and stability.
The Treasurer is a trustee of the charity and plays a key role in its effective governance. The Treasurer is an ‘office‐holder’ among the charity trustees.
While financial matters are the responsibility of all trustees, the Treasurer is expected to use their knowledge and experience to provide advice and guidance to the Board on financial matters and to advise on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Oversight
- Develop and manage the LSA’s annual budget.
- Work closely with the bookkeeper to ensure proper accounting records are kept, and financial controls and procedures are adhered to.

- Oversee fundraising efforts and manage donated funds.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare management accounts for the board, including a balance sheet which shows the movement and balances on unrestricted and restricted funds. These should be supported by a narrative explaining the most significant variances, with more detailed information on options for remedial action in areas of concern.
- Ensure financial information is presented in an accurate and timely fashion.
Compliance
- Ensure LSA complies with all relevant financial regulations and laws.
- Stay updated on changes in financial regulations and their impact on the LSA.
- Guide and advise fellow trustees in the board’s formal approval of the annual report and accounts.
- Coordinate the external examination of accounts and ensure compliance with any recommendations.
- Work closely with the governance trustee.
Risk Management
- Identify, assess, and monitor financial risks to the LSA and bring them to the attention of all trustees.
- Discuss with the board and implement measures to mitigate these risks.
Additional Responsibilities
- Occasionally support and organise LSA-wide activities and events.

- Excellent interpersonal skills, especially making volunteers feel valued.
- Strong teamwork skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire others.
- Reliability and dependability.
