After twenty years as a gallery owner, artist and maker, Stephen has spent the past decade at one of the country’s leading independent schools, inspiring pupils to explore their creativity and consider careers in the creative industries. Closing the gallery freed Stephen from the constraints of working to commission, allowing him to create for the joy of making, experiment with new media and follow his own creative instincts. Recently encouraged by his son, a Fine Art Printmaking graduate, he has begun exploring printmaking, opening up new possibilities for his practice alongside his established media of charcoal, graphite and ink.
