Response to “The Waste Land” by T S Eliot

(Activity inspired by ‘Journeys with ‘The Waste Land’”, an exhibition at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, Coventry, 15 September – 18 November 2018)


Open Exhibition at East Lodge, Jephson Gardens, Leamington Spa

31st October to 25th November 2018


Submission to the exhibition is free to LSA members and £10 for non-members. Payment, if applicable, will be made at East Lodge when artworks are submitted. There is no limit to the number of entries an artist may submit, but the maximum size for a 2D artwork is 50cm x 70cm or equivalent. Larger pieces may be accepted following negotiation with the East Lodge Manager. The price for a collection of art (items which form a group) may be negotiated. A selection process will take place and the submission fee will be refunded to those not selected to exhibit.

The deadline for registration is 1st October 2018.

Registration must include a short description, no more than 150 words, of how the piece was inspired by “The Waste Land” and which aspect of the poem was chosen. Registration can be completed online below, or via a form available from East Lodge.

Submissions should be made to East Lodge on Monday 29th October, between 10.00 am & 2 pm.

Unsold artwork should be collected from East Lodge on Monday 26th November, between 10.00 am and 2 pm.

The exhibition will make use of plinths, tables, wall space, floor space and glass cabinets. Multi-media submissions may be negotiated with the East Lodge Manager. There is some, limited, lockable display space.

There will be no commission fee charged on sales, but a 3% charge will be made for any purchases made by credit/debit card.

There will be a Judge’s Prize of £100 awarded to the artwork which Professor Tooby feels provides the best response to “The Waste Land”. A £50 People’s Choice Award will also be made.

The exhibition will be open Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 4pm (subject to park opening times), from 31st October to 25th November.
