He was once told that his name means “fire,” and it has stayed with him. Fire can start many other processes, shape things, reconfigure matter, create, and inspire. The Dutch spelling of the word has captivated him too: sharp angles separated by smooth lines—a contest of letters that somehow finds harmony.
That unconventional harmony is what vuur is trying to convey in his art. Discarded, abandoned items are given new lives in his work, just as words come together in an unusual pattern. In vuur’s art, 3D and written forms are meant to work together—they complement each other and cannot be separated.
