I grew up in Newlyn and Hayle in Cornwall. After graduating from Coventry University I pursued a career in car design.
My work captures a sense of Cornwall from a local perspective, glimpses of the seascape from a far, from behind and inbetween coastal architecture. I like to craft my compositions carefully, leaving the overall environment to the viewers imagination. I can be both very loose and sketchy, but also neat and detailed (I guess that’s come from my car design career) and I really like to combine the two. I’m not afraid to be experimental, whether that’s with the subject matter, the media, composition or colour. I love experimenting with textures, I became quite fascinated with portraying pebbledash!
Contemporary nostalgia’ is an element I would like to bring more into my work. Evoking a memory, transporting the viewer to a personal moment, but through a contemporary eye can be really special.
