My Profile

I am a Warwickshire-based photographer, concentrating mainly on people and documentary image-making. I am influenced by the cinematic and mise-en-scene work of artists such as Julia Fullerton-Batten and Erwin Olaf, and by the portrait photography of Laura Stevens and Gemmy Woud-Binnendijk. I like the tension that arises from the juxtaposition of the very exact and the ambiguous, and in the majority of my images I am seeking the unusual, and - sometimes - the unsettling. Photography is a medium that faithfully reproduces the world, yet at the same time, it can open doors and windows in our mind. For me, photography therefore works best when we look at an image and our subconscious stops us, and something in us says "I recognise that."
