My name is Divya and I am a mosaic artist. My mosaics go by the name Moora Moora Mosaics which means 'Good Spirit' in the native language of Australia. I have been making and teaching the art of mosaic since 2011. My journey with the art started in 2010 in Sydney, Australia at the Kur-ring-gai Art Centre. My work is inspired by things around me like a scene from my window, landscapes that I see as I drive around, flowers in my garden. I also draw ideas and inspiration from my culture. This can be the motifs on a sari, the folk art in India like Madhubani, miniature paintings and relief art. As an artist, I am always looking for new ways of expressing my creative ideas. I am deeply influenced by the concept of recycle and reuse. To that end, the bases are often unwanted wooden chopping boards, terracotta pots and glass bottles. Vitreous or bisazza glass tiles my speciality. I also use discarded and broken ceramic. Glass beads and smalti also find a place in my mosaic work. I have taught adults and children in my weekly mosaic classes. I have conducted workshops and fundraisers as well. I have had design students from IB (International Baccalaureate), NID (National Institute of Design, India) and NIFT(National Institute of Fashion Technology). In the coming months, I wish to create more pieces and participate in art events across the region. I wish to continue to explore the art and create new pieces with new skills and design ideas. I would like to expand my studio and have more people learn and enjoy the art.
