My work is an emotional response to the natural world and elements within it. Trees, plants,
organic shapes and rock strata are particularly inspiring. I am self-taught, initially having
started to draw and photograph the wild beauty of the west coast of Scotland in an attempt to capture
and interpret my strong feelings for the rugged, isolated landscape. This formative experience
continues to be a major, underlying influence in my work today.
I am also influenced by the knowledge and ceremonies of Indigenous peoples; their connectedness to the earth and the wider universe. Working in a variety of media: pen and ink, gold/silver leaf, pencil, intaglio and photography, I explore these relationships through both fine detail and more abstract use of shape and colour. Recently I have been enjoying lines and forms found in more urban environments, seeking out and abstracting aspects of architecture and machinery. Street photography is a growing interest.
Shape and colour are becoming more prominent and superseding the importance of the actual subject in some aspects of my work. My drawings have always taken an abstracted form. Some areas of my photography are also becoming more abstract as I experiment with Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) & longer shutter speeds.
I endeavout to draw attention to the detail and beauty of the world around us. - Subscription Plan
