Warwickshire Open Studios 2018

16 June 2018 - 1 July 2018

Warwickshire Open Studios 2018

LSA is excited to bring you an exhibition of four members’ work in the gallery at East Lodge during Warwickshire Open Studios 2018. For a taste of their work and their inspiration please scroll down.

Whilst at East Lodge, why not take a moment to visit the artists studios, which will also be open.

Veronika Pock

Veronika’s style of painting could be described as both naïve and whimsical; her work also has the tendency to be rather busy.  She switches between deep and serious artwork to fun and fanciful work as her mood dictates. Most of her works generate positive, warming feelings and the viewer is often seen leaving with a smile.  Her work can be emotionally powerful, yet portrayed in her own fanciful naïve style.

Sue Southorn

Sue enjoys experimenting and responding in a spontaneous way to the environment, often being inspired by the patterns and shapes found in Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly and beyond. Whether a painting is based in reality, or a figment of the imagination, she aims to capture a sense of mood and atmosphere

Virginia Murphy

Unique paintings, hand painted glassware, felt and machine embroidered pictures.

Virginia started painting about 25 years ago, when she lived in Scotland. Since then she has developed her technique using various media and experimenting with texture and colour to create a unique style. As all creative people develop their own style, hers evolved from small watercolours to large acrylic and oil paintings expressing her love of colour and nature in bold compositions on canvas. It is a desire to try to recreate the complexity of colours in nature that spurs her on – ever changing her style in the desire to express herself through her pictures.

Although continuing with her painting, she now focuses much of her time on design and creative arts and crafts. About 3 years ago she attended several courses in felt making and creative design. She was really inspired from this to experiment with machine embroidery. So now, as well as painting, she creates very individual and striking machine embroidered pictures, using handmade felt and beautiful materials. These pictures are an ongoing process, changing and developing along the way, depending on how different shapes and threads change the presentation of the picture.

She regularly hold workshops in needle felting, wet felting and glass painting. For details please see her website: www.virginiamurphy.co.uk

Virginia will be demonstrating felting at East Lodge in the afternoons at the weekends of Open Studios.

Yvonne Morris

Yvonne has always loved experimenting with drawings, colours and textures. In 2000, she studied with Neil Moore before completing a fine arts degree at Birmingham City University. This was followed by various commissions for portraits and figurative paintings which she fitted in whilst working in an art gallery. However, a few years ago she began to create textured city and seascape paintings which she exhibited and sold in galleries in Newcastle, Chester, Stratford and London. More recently she has been experimenting with contemporary portraits which she is hoping to evolve to a style that, whilst challenging, will prompt her to stay with a genre that gives her the greatest challenge and enjoyment.
