Dates: Friday 23 January

Time: 10am – 4pm

Level: Any

Location: LSA Art Room, Springboard Studios, Lower Mall, Royal Priors, Leamington Spa

Together, we will work through a step-by-step process to create a pet portrait in oils or acrylics. Our aim is to make the eyes come alive and give both the animal and your painting lots of personality! I hope to inspire you with new ideas and techniques that you can take away and apply to your own work.

You will be working from your own image—either from an iPad or a printed photograph that is at least 5″ x 5″. The animal’s eyes must be clear and in focus. Please crop your image to a square, ensuring the animal’s head takes up most of the frame.

The better the image, the better the painting!

Type of medium used: Acrylic paint or oils.

Materials provided: 8″ x 8″ gesso board (£5 to tutor on the day)

What to bring: A colour photograph of your animal on an iPad or tablet. A black and white print of your square cropped image as large as you can on an A4 piece of paper. A selection of brushes. A selection of artist quality paints. A palette knife. A paper palette and a box to take your work home in. A roll of paper towel A stay wet palette (only if you have one) Oils only: a jar and some low door thinners for cleaning brushes.
