Martin Rowson Graphic Novel “The Waste Land”

I thought all you wonderful and talented illustrators, artists and extraordinary crafts-people with pen, ink, pencil, charcoal…would like to see and hear award winning cartoonist and political commentator Martin Rowson talk about his spoof based on Raymond Chandler novels with “The Waste Land” as a starting point!  Original drawings for the novel are part of the exhibition Journeys with “The Waste Land” at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum.

Illustrated talk by Martin Rowson

Sat 20 Oct, 2-3.30pm

Herbert Art Gallery & Museum

Meet Martin Rowson, award winning cartoonist and scourge of the political establishment. In this talk he’ll discuss his satirical take on The Waste Land, a graphic poem in which private detective Chris Marlowe is tasked with getting to the bottom of the most impenetrable of all modernist mysteries: namely T. S. Eliot’s “The Waste Land”. Cunningly contrived, this irreverent graphic parody is inspired in equal parts by the classic modernist poem and by the American noir novels of Raymond Chandler.

Join us for this rare opportunity for an informal and intimate discussion, followed by a Q&A, with one of the UK’s most distinctive political commentators. Books will be available to purchase on the day for the author to sign.

Suitable for age 16+ poem.
